Organisers of charity Power Walks, The SunWalks are inviting mini Monets and wannabe Warhols aged 11 or under to design the official T-shirt to be worn by all younger walkers taking part in this year’s challenges.
An initiative of charity Walk the Walk, there are two SunWalks taking place this year – Bristol on the 6th July and Newcastle on the 7th September.
Both will see families and friends of all ages take on the challenge of a 5K, 10K or Half Marathon Power Walk, and whilst they are all getting fit and having fun, they will also be raising money for charity. Last year, more than 2,500 people took part in the third SunWalk Bristol, raising almost £¼ million – an amazing achievement!
And not only is Walk the Walk passionate about raising funds for vital breast cancer causes, it is also dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle, as it believes that taking more responsibility for your own wellbeing is a vital part of prevention. As such, the charity wants these young artists to really think about what it means to be fit and healthy when coming up with their designs.
The title of this year’s T-shirt competition is ‘Walking on Sunshine’ so all entrants need to do is get creative and send their masterpieces, on A3/A4 sized paper with their name, age, and parent's contact details (name, telephone number and address) on the back of the page, to the address below or visit www.walkthewalk.org for more details and Walk the Walk will do the rest.
The T-shirt competition is being judged by some prestigious judges this year including: CBBC presenter of Best of Friends, Rani Price; artist, entertainer and presenter, Rolf Harris; and the singer and former presenter of BBC’s Record Breakers, Cheryl Baker.
Walk the Walk is also encouraging schools to take part and can provide assembly packs containing posters, application forms and more information about the SunWalks to schools on request.
In addition to having their winning T-shirt design printed and worn by the hundreds of children of all ages taking part at The SunWalks, there are also prizes for the lucky winner and runners up.
The child with the winning design will walk away with a £100 voucher from www.365tickets.com which provides tickets to theme parks and family attractions across the UK including the Yorvic Viking Centre, Scarborough SEA LIFE and Marine Sanctuary, Alton Towers, Weymouth SEA LIFE Park and Marine Sanctuary and more. The prize winner’s whole family will also receive an invitation to visit the VIP tent at the SunWalk challenge closest to where they live. Two runners up will receive luxury art sets.
Entries must be sent by Friday 6th June to: SunWalk Kids T-Shirt Competition, Walk the Walk, Brook House, 88-100 Chertsey Road, Woking, Surrey GU21 5BJ
And for those who are 12 or over, there is still a chance to get involved and make a difference. Sign up, bring a picnic, bring friends, bring the whole family and join Walk the Walk on Sunday, 6th July, at Ashton Court, Bristol or on Sunday, 7th September, at Exhibition Park, Newcastle.
