We have always had close links with the Bristol because of our SunWalk and it was good to be back. Wow! What a change in the weather! After weeks of persistent rain and showers the SUN CAME OUT! The day dawned foggy and chilly but became just the right temperature for our walkers to proudly sport their decorated bras!
The team gathered in good time at College Green, getting to know each other, fixing numbers and chips and balloons, writing names on chests, and slapping on a bit of sun cream! We had some first-timers and some experienced Walk the Walkers with many miles under their feet.
This year there were two start waves and being in the second, we took the opportunity to join in both mass warm ups. Why is it so hard to bend your knees and raise your arms at the same time AND look co-ordinated? We were warm and stretched and ready to go!
We waited patiently in the slow-moving queue to get to the start, and suddenly space opened up in front as the runners headed off. Then we were crossing the start line and, with the sound of timing chips pinging in our ears, away round the roads of Bristol.
The marshals and spectators always gave us plenty of encouragement with many cries of “here come the bra ladies!”. In a decorated bra you ALWAYS make a lasting impression!
And just when you thought it had gone a bit quiet, there were Kerry and Yvonne from Walk the, shouting encouragement at FULL volume, giving us renewed vigour to step it out to the finish line!
