Location:New York USA

The Big Apple is the place to be and the New York Marathon is one of the best! Not only will yoube experiencing culture, shopping and restaurants like nowhere else on earth but you will also be joining a very special team of Power Walkers to complete the ING New York City Marathon. This delicious city is the place it all started for Walk the Walk and it is still a favourite so we canpromise a weekend that you won’t forget!

Read on to find out how it was for the walkers last year!

The team had a wonderful time in the ‘city that never sleeps’ and we all returned with a huge sense of achievement from not only participating in one of the world’s best marathons but also uniting against breast cancer. For a first timer in New York, the city was awesome in the fullest sense of the word; bright lights, Broadway, The Ferris Wheel inside Toys‘r’Us – yep…we lived the dream!

Friendship Run (walk!)

Saturday morning began early with a big part of the team taking part in The Friendship Run, a six mile jaunt around Manhattan, starting at the United Nations building and finishing in Central Park - a great wake up call and opportunity to get the legs moving. The atmosphere was relaxed and the attention we received was huge! You just can’t miss those bras! Onwards to the penthouse for our team tactics talk where Nina said a few words about the big day and then we had celebration dinner of heaps of pasta to energise ourselves for the day ahead.

The big day

In the 26.2 miles of the marathon we experienced a feast for the senses as we made our way through the five boroughs of New York, starkly different from one street to the next and an eye opening experience of the different communities that make up New York. It really was a day like no other. The support from the crowds was incredible, deafening and as you can imagine, hundreds of people desperate to have their picture taken with ‘The Bra Girls’.

Time to say goodbye

The next day we had our sing along-a-goodbye breakfast – we made our way to Ellen’s Diner on Broadway, a great start to the day with a real American Breakfast. Whilst we ate, the staff sang songs, from ‘Mustang Sally’ to ‘You are the sunshine of my life’ we got up and danced and it was a perfect end to our New York adventure.

After lots of hugs and goodbyes and promises to send pictures, everybody went their own way and the next mission was shopping! It was a weekend to beat all weekends and an amazing experience!
