The SunWalk and MoonWalk are both licensed events so you can not organise your own, but we are very happy to help you in any way we can to achieve your fundraising goals.
The good thing about some of these ideas is that there is a great exchange, your friends and family will benefit, you will raise your sponsorship and you will both be making a difference to the quality of life to many thousands of people with cancer now.
We've put some ideas together to get you going. But if you get stuck why not take a look at these inspirational stories or give us a call and we will help if we can! Don't foget to let us know if you have done anything spectacular to raise money for Walk the Walk and we'll put your achievement up here. Let us know all your good ideas to share with others!
Good Luck!
Catherine and her friends organised a ball to raise money for Walk the Walk and their local hospice:
"Thank you so much for your support last night and for opening our Summer Solstice Ball. You really got our event off to a great start and we all very much appreciate that. The ball was a huge success and we are all literally basking in the glory and the warm sunshine today feeling both relieved and delighted that our 300+ friends and family had such a great time.Their support has been immense and while we don’t know the exact total for last night’s fundraising as yet we do know it is more than £20,000 which is great news for Walk the Walk and our local hospice, Sam Beare!
So now we may all look forward to the real challenge – completing the Summer Solstice Marathon around Lake Myvatn! The training programme is back in full swing tomorrow after last week’s busy week of logistics and planning for the ball.
Kind regards and sincere thanks on behalf of the whole team,
Catherine"
On a warm July evening when the temperatures were still reaching 45 degrees centigrade a group of 15 people, from the United Kingdom Medical Group, put on their walking boots and took to the road to do a charity stretcher push around Shaibah Logistics Base, Iraq. The majority of the group consisted of nurses, a combat technician, a laboratory technician and a Squadron Quarter Master and all wore Walk the Walk Bra T-Shirts! The group took turns to push the stretcher and to carry the buckets collecting donations from passing cars and pedestrians, nobody was safe from determined girls to make them part with their money! After 2 trips around two trips around the base, covering a total of 6 miles we headed off back to camp, money was counted and sore feet were rubbed. The sum of money raised was £615.68.
The people that were involved in the stretcher push were involved for all different reasons, the majority said they would have been doing some sort of cancer charity event back at home in the UK if they had not been deployed, there are a few who had relatives or friends with cancer and wished to raise money for a cancer charity.
All of us at Walk the Walk would like to say a HUGE thank you to you all!!
"Walk the Walkers” find all sorts of creative and unusual ways to raise money but this may have been a first! A team of 4 ladies put on what can only be described as the most unique way to raise money - we think that the video probably says it all. Well done ladies! You can watch the video here!
Morning
I thought you might like to hear my fundraising story.I took part in the Edinburgh Moon walk this year with my mum. With the support of all my work colleagues and friends I have managed to raise just over £3000.
I work offshore primarily with men so I thought this would be a challenge to take this kind of charity to such a male dominated industry. have been overwhelmed with the support the guys have given me and I'm really proud of them for helping me raise such a fantastic amount.I also owe a lot of thanks to BP. To help me raise the profile of my fundraising and for a bit of fun I was given funds from BP to purchase hundreds of stress breasts to give to all the guys as freebies. As you can imagine these have gone down a storm!! Because of this, news of my fundraising has spread from Shetland down to Saltend. I also decided to run a design a bra competition on the platform. Again, I got a great response from everyone but a lot of the guys took this home and had their children enter the competition.
We enjoyed the walk and I'm already thinking about fundraising ideas for more walks next year. Gail
We are a team of women - called the Highland Coos - from a small village in the Scottish Highlands. We began raising money for Walk the Walk and taking part in events in 2005 and to date have raised over £6,000! As a group or individually we've taken part in the Glasgow Half Marathon, London Moonwalk, Bristol Sunwalk, & Edinburgh Moonwalk - our distinguishing feature is our very attractive Highland Coo bras!
We've fund raised through sponsorship - business and individual; quiz nights, bingo, teas & soup at summer fayres, children's games, golf event raffles but our latest idea has been very successful and we wondered if other groups could use the idea.
In January we advertised a 'Pay £10 to lose 10lbs in 10 Weeks' - people came to our Leisure Centre to be weighed in January and paid £10 and 10 weeks later returned to be weighed again. How they lost the lbs was up to them but if did their name went into a hat and at a social night in March five names were drawn and half the registration money divided between them, with the other half going to Walk the Walk.
Our village only has a population of 1,300 so we were amazed and delighted when 54 people turned up to register! This meant that £270 was donated and we also ran a Sweepstake to guess the final group weight loss and had a raffle on the last night. Altogether we raised a magnificent £439. We also got a lot of women walking - even though the winter nights are often dark & cold - and great enthusiasm for doing it again next year.
6 of the Coos are coming to London for the Moonwalk this year and we have a regular walking session twice a week which anyone is welcome to join - sometimes we have a group of 12 women walking 4 - 6 miles on a local estate road and probably amongst some of the most spectacular scenery in the counrty - we often see birds of prey, herds of deer and of course Highland Cows! By the way our total group weight loss was over 26 stone!
Here's looking forward to May!
